History of Maritime Law
The attempts of Omani mariner to find laws and controls to determine the relation between all parties related to navigation date back to early era from the beginning of relation of Omani man to sea and maritime navigation.
The maritime rules, regulations and mechanisms that are locally known in the Sultanate of Oman were known as (Sunan Al-Bahr) represented the modern maritime laws. These customs may vary from a country to the other, and may vary from a city to the other in the same state. Examples of this include the meqtaa system in the Omani city of Soor, which correspondences to Qalata system in Batena and Dhufar. Due to the immense development in the field of maritime navigation, the countries had to set the maritime laws that bind all parties to maritime navigation.
